Former Lakes High School star Calvin Schmidtke, who lost a football scholarship at Washington State after repeated run-ins with the law, has been kicked off the Indiana State football team.
Coach Trent Miles, a former University of Washington assistant coach, said Schmidtke was dismissed for repeated violations of team rules.
Schmidtke passed for 295 yards, one touchdown and four interceptions in five games as a true freshman at Indiana State last year. The Sycamores finished 0-12 in their first season under Miles.
As a senior at Lakes in 2007, Schmidtke completed 76 percent of his passes for 2,724 yards, 37 touchdowns and just five interceptions. He also ran for 10 touchdowns.
WSU pulled Schmidtke’s scholarship before he arrived on campus after he was charged with various traffic, alcohol and drug offenses.
